Privacy Policy

Minda is a reminder app. This explains exactly what it stores, what leaves your phone, and what you can do about it.

The short version

What stays on your phone

Everything, by default. Your reminders, notes, labels, history and settings are stored on the device. Signed out, Minda sends none of it to us. The code that syncs is switched off entirely rather than merely idle.

What leaves your phone, and when

If you sign in (optional)

Signing in exists for one reason: so you can get your reminders back on a new phone. While signed in, Minda uploads your reminder records to our database so they can be restored later.

Those records include what you wrote: titles, notes, labels and dates. We are not going to pretend otherwise: a backup that did not contain your reminders would not be a backup. They are stored so your account can read them back, and we do not use them for anything else, sell them, or show them to anyone.

Sign in with Google, or with a code sent to your email address. Either way it is one account, and you can delete it at any time. We keep your email address, and if you sign in with Google, also the name on your Google account, because Google includes it when you sign in. We do not use the name for anything.

Offer emails (only with an account)

If you have an account, we may now and then email you a sale on Minda Premium, for example when you have not opened Minda for a while. You can say no when you sign in, switch it off any time in Minda under Profile → Signed in, or use the unsubscribe link in every email. We only email you about other Laoolabs tools and services if you switched that on yourself, in the same place.

To decide who is sent a welcome-back offer, we keep, with your account, the date you last opened Minda, whether you have ever bought Premium, and when your Premium ends. They are deleted with your account. The emails are sent for us by Resend.

Android's own backup (on by default, and not ours)

Android backs up app data to your own Google Drive, and Minda allows it, so a new phone can restore your reminders even if you never signed in. This copy goes to your Google account, not to us, and we cannot read it. You can switch it off in Android's Settings → Google → Backup.

It is mentioned here because it is the one thing that would make "nothing ever leaves your phone" untrue, and that sentence appears nowhere in this policy for exactly that reason.

Usage counts

Minda records a few plain events (the app was opened, a reminder was created, onboarding finished) so we can tell whether the app is working for people. These are sent whether or not you have an account, and are tied to a random identifier the app generates for itself. It is not your Android ID and not an advertising ID. While you are signed in, these counts are linked to your account.

Reminder text cannot reach these events even by accident. The code accepts only numbers, true/false, and short plain keywords with no spaces. Anything else is discarded before sending, so a reminder title could not be transmitted even if some future bug tried to attach one.

Permissions Minda asks for

PermissionWhy
NotificationsTo show your reminders. This is the only one you are asked about.
Alarms & remindersSo a reminder arrives at the minute you set, rather than whenever Android feels like it. This also covers waking the phone for that alarm and re-setting your reminders after a restart.
VibrationThe small tap you feel when you complete something.
InternetUsed for sign-in, backup, purchases, the optional ads and the usage counts above.
Advertising IDLets Google's ad service show the optional ads and check they were watched. You can reset or delete it in Android's settings.
Google Play purchasesSo you can buy Premium.
Network status and background workGoogle's ad tools use these to check for a connection and finish loading.

That is the complete list. Minda requests no access to your location, contacts, camera, microphone, photos, files or calendar.

Who else is involved

WhoWhat they do
SupabaseHosts the database holding accounts and backed-up reminders.
GoogleSign in with Google; Google Play distributes the app; Android's backup uses your own Google Drive.
ResendDelivers the sign-in code when you sign in by email, and the offer emails above.
Google AdMobGoogle's ad service, used only if you choose to watch an ad for free premium. Like any ad, it needs a little basic information to work: your device's advertising ID, a rough idea of your region, and whether the ad was watched. This goes to Google, not to us, and Google uses it to show the ad and prevent fraud. How Google uses this information. You can reset or delete your advertising ID in Android's settings.
RevenueCatHandles purchases and remembers what you have bought.

Nobody here follows you between apps, and there is no analytics or crash-reporting company involved at all. Google AdMob only enters the picture if you choose to watch an ad. If you never do, it never runs.

How long things are kept

Your choices

If you are in the EU or UK, you have the right to access, correct, export or erase your personal data, and to object to its processing. The export and delete options above do the first three immediately; for anything else, email us and we will answer within 30 days.

Children

Minda is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect anything from them.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that affects what we collect, the date at the top changes and the new version appears here before the change takes effect.
